From Narrow Alleys to Broad Perspectives: Urban Operations

Firsr and foremost: Urban operations is a broad concept by itself. here is a simplified way to understand what we are looking at:

Two important terms derived of Urban warfare: urban area and urban environment. The first is a subset of the second.

  1. An urban area is a topographical complex where man-made construction or high population density is the dominant feature. Focusing on urban areas means concentrating on the physical aspects of the area and their effects on tactics, techniques, and procedures.

  2. The urban environment includes the physical aspects of the urban area as well as the complex and dynamic interaction and relationships between its key components-the terrain (natural and man-made), the population, and the supporting infrastructure-as an overlapping and interdependent system of systems.

MOMENT FROM A CLASS: Force on Force as the perfect conditioning tool?

FOF is not the pinnacle; it's not that one training method that you need to do your job, it's a component of training that should be utilized alongside a variety of types of training to improve your thinking and skills. It's not the ultimate, nor 1:1 with real situations, but that said it's certainly a great way to include human resistance in training and form familiarisation with dynamic situations.
