The PCQB 01 course serves as a short, to-the-point entry-level gateway into Project Gecko's ITCQB system. This course will focus on resistance-based CQB. Topics covered in this course include the anatomy of structures, weapon flow, solo room clearing, and two-person tactics. More information about the system is below!

This course focuses on working within Solo, Cell, and Team capacities.

 ABOUT THE COURSE.

While it shares similarities with the ITCQB 01 course, This PCQB course primarily focuses on solo to two-man limited Penetration tactics based on the ITCQB methodology - just with a handgun.

this course specifically set its focus around the application of the handgun in this environment. Students will receive both theoretical as well as practical training.

Course modules (Overview):

  • Room anatomy - Theory & introduction to ITCQB

  • Weapon flow - Positions, movement, considerations of the handgun in CQB

  • Friendly Fire prevention - The prevention of Friendly fire incidents in close quarters

  • Solo room clearing - a movement to and around the threshold/room in a one-man context.

  • Two-man room clearing - the work of two teammates around the threshold, moving into and out of the room.

  • FOF Validations - for both Solo and Cell, different levels of Force on Force scenarios will be played.

  • Constant long method - a context-specific form of clearing both corridors and rooms.

What is the different between a handgun and a rifle in CQB?

While tactics may not change entirely, techniques will.

A few things to consider:

  1. Shooting around the threshold.

The length and handling of the handgun are different than that of a ‘longer’ platform. Here we see some difficulties that can lead to problems around the threshold. Either hitting the threshold initially or obscuring the field of view.

2. Retention, and safety.

Handguns, characterized by their compactness, offer easy concealment and off-hand use, providing a certain level of adaptability. However, this flexibility comes with challenges, particularly when operating in crowds or within a team. Efficiently balancing safety and quick deployment is crucial. This aspect, unfortunately, heightens the risk of accidental sweeping, a result of inadequate muzzle control.

There are a few more points. In this class, we will dive into and highlight the differences.

Furthermore, considerations such as ballistics and other mechanical aspects can influence the tactical application of handguns.

Our research experience, combined with feedback from students over recent years, led to the development of the PCQB 01 course. Having run this program for more than 100 times, over the past few years, we have found our observations confirmed: while the tactics should remain the same, the method of applying a handgun should be trained separately.
